We are proud to announce our newest service: the Louisiana Armed Citizen’s Plan. It is a pre-paid legal service catering to the needs of those who want to consider firearms as a self-defense option. While it is important to train to protect yourself in a physical confrontation, it is equally important to learn to protect yourself in the inevitable legal confrontation that comes afterwords.
The full details of the plan can be found here, and you can even enroll online. But the gist of it is that, for a very modest monthly fee, we help prepare you by giving you the information you need before a confrontation occurs, and we stand with you and defend you in the aftermath of a self-defense shooting. We also stand with you to defend you against any other legal action that threatens your right to carry arms in self defense.
This is an innovative new service that we are excited about and proud to offer. For more information, just give us a call, and we will be happy to answer your questions!

[ UPDATE: The administration came off of this very quickly. The gun-rights community spoke up loud and clear and our voices were heard. ]
It was feared that HR-45 was going to be the big battle, but mor politically savvy commentators have not worried about it, as it is the kind of bill that would be dead in committee. But this is a sneaky end-round, bypassing congress entirely: just change the military’s rules about disposing of spent ammo casings. Instead of selling them to reloaders, now they have to be completely scrapped.
This is going to cause ammunition prices to skyrocket.
this move is a stupendous waste of taxpayer money–reducing the worth of the brass some 80%–from casings, to shredded bulk brass.
… most of this will now go to foundries where it will be melted down, cast in shippable forms, and likely be sold to China, one of the largest purchasers of U.S. metals on the open market.

The most important piece of advice I can give anyone who may be facing criminal charges is simple: don’t talk to the police! Well, it sounds simple, but it is one of the hardest things to actually do. The police are good at getting people to talk to them and most people, when under stress, talk their heads off. It doesn’t matter if you are innocent. You can only hurt yourself.
This video of a very entertaining presentation by law professor James Duane does an excellent job of really driving home exactly why it is so important to not talk to the police. I hope that, after watching it, and finding yourself in some serious trouble, you will remember its advice. Call your lawyer (hopefully me) immediately and keep your mouth shut!

I love lawyer jokes. It surprises a lot of people, but the truth is, a lot of lawyers do. I am really not sure why that is. When I decided to go to law school, I knew people would be telling me the lawyer jokes they knew, and I wanted to be able to beat them to the punchline, so I scoured the ‘net and learned as many of them as I could find.
At one time, I had a web-based collection of lawyer jokes, which was part of my father’s website, but is now inaccessible or lost, I am not sure. I found a pretty good collection here, and put a link to it in my blogroll for you.

As of January 1, 2007, you may have to wait longer than before to get a divorce. Before the change, a married couple had to live separate from each other for six months. Now, it’s a bit more complicated.
If you don’t have minor children, the wait is the same. If you do have minor children, though, you will have to wait a year except in unusual circumstances. For example, if there is an abusive situation, the wait goes back to six months. However, just as before, an immediate divorce can be granted in cases of adultery or when a person is serving prison time for committing a felony.

Well, my last service provder apparently disappeared. That’s the second provider we’ve been with that simply vanished. So, we are building a new site from scratch, so it may be a while before this place is really up to speed.
We are a small law firm in Houma, Louisiana. We handle criminal, domestic, Workers’ Compensation and personal injury cases. We do things a little differently from a lot of firms. We are family oriented, and have a lot of children of the staff around here all the time. We tend to be pretty laid back and personable.
So, if you are in the need of legal services, and want to talk to someone who will really listen, I hope you give us a call and see what we can do for you.
